India will be eager to break Keenan jinx

India will be eager to break Keenan jinx

With the series already in pocket, the Indian team will be keen to break the Keenan Jinx when they take on the visiting team for the sixth match here on April 12.

Altogether nine ODIs have been hosted at the Keenan including, one between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in March 1999.

India have a poor record at Keenan, which is known for being the batsmen's paradise, losing six of the eight matches they played here since 1983.

The only success came in 2000 when the Sourav Ganguly-led home side prevailed over Hansie Cronje's South Africa.

India's outgoing against Australia in the Ranji trophy golden jubilee series was abandoned due to rain in 1987.

Put into bat first, India scored 137 for seven in a curtailed 26-over a side match with Sachin Tendulkar notching up 24 runs.

An unbeaten 53 runs by Neil Fairbrothers, who was adjudged the man-of-the-match, helped England to hit up 141 for the loss of four wickets in 25.4 overs to clinch the match by six wickets.

The 28,000 capacity stadium had been a favourite for the visiting side, barring South Africa with West Indies, Pakistan, New Zealand, Australia and England had a successful record at the Keenan wicket.

Pakistan, who played three matches at Keenan including on neutral match against Sri Lanka in March 1999, won all the matches they played here like West Indies, who played two matches and won both.
